How To Add A New User

You will be required to access the server via a remote desktop connection, please see the document titled: “Using Remote Server Access” which can be found in the Computors support section for information concerning how to locate and open the active directory users and computers window.

Once you have opened Active Directory Users and Computers; select your company name (For example “Computors”.) Then go on to select “users” from the list under that folder.

Now you will need to click the icon marked add new user.

The new object – user wizard will now open, on this first screen simply complete the following:
- First name
- Second name
- User logon name (this should be in the format of:-
First Name.Surname)

Don’t worry about Full name as the computer fills this out automatically, don’t add Initials.

Click Next to advance.

This next phase will request a password for the user to be created. Please use a default easily remembered password and have the user change it as soon as possible, Unselect the option to force a password change on next log on.

Then click next to advance.

This next section creates a mailbox for the user, if you do not wish for the user to have email access then remove the tick from the box otherwise just
leave the settings on this page as they are and click next to advance.

Click Finish to complete the process.

You should now see your new user added to the list.

Next double click on your new user to access this menu, Go straight to the “Profile” tab. You will need to edit these fields before your user will function correctly.

In the profile path you must type the following:

(Please note that server-1 is a stand in for the name of your server which should be entered here)

\\server-1\profiles\%username%

In logon script you must type:
Logon.bat

If Home Drives are in use on your network select the “connect” option in the home folder section and use the drop down box to select the H: drive. (If you are unsure that Home Drives are in use then check the profile tab of another user.) You must then type the following in the box to the right:

(Please note that server-1 is a stand in for the name of your server which should be entered here)

\\server-1\homedrives\%username%

Click Apply then OK to exit that screen. Your new user should be now functional.
